BODY OF EXPERIENCE THAT CROSSES NATIONAL BOUNDARIES
GORDON WELLS lives on the Isle of Benbecula in the Western Isles of Scotland.
A trained linguist, he combines his teaching skills with work on research and development projects in a wide range of educational and training contexts. Over the years he has built up a body of experience that crosses national and international boundaries.
At an international level he has worked across Europe, managing the Leonardo “POOLS” project. The work won a European Award for Languages in 2007 and for Creativity and Innovation in Lifelong Learning in 2009. In 2012 his work on Island Voices Videos was nominated, under the Local Innovation category, for the prestigious British Council ELTons awards – the “Oscars of English Language Teaching” worldwide. He also has strong contacts with India, building on his knowledge of Hindi and experience of working with the BBC to produce the “Hindi Urdu Bol Chaal” TV series.
From April 2015 he has taken on the project management role for Soillse – the national research network for the maintenance and revitalisation of Gaelic language and culture.
He has significant previous domestic project management experience as well, as the instrumental figure in developing the Colaisde Bheinn na Faoghla FE and HE centre on Benbecula.
Gordon is married and has two children. His wife Catherine is a music instructor, music therapist, and arts education worker. Gordon also takes a keen interest in music and designs and makes his own flutes.
